Story
Chakradance was founded by Natalie South gate in 1998 and was born out of her training in jungian psychology dance and chakra healing see https://www.chakradance.com/our-story/ for the beginnings of chakradance
My story in 2017 I was diagnosed with a serious mental health condition and was having trouble managing my health following 2 domestic violence relationships one after the other which had triggered a more serious health crisis. I was also exploring alternative spirituality and learning about eastern wisdom. I felt trapped by the mental health system and felt the care I received in the community was inadequate due to over stretched services. I had a number of challenges in my life not just my mental health and I needed to find a way to keep moving rather than freezing and I needed to find a way to heal the traumas I had experienced in my life which I very much felt in my body. I practised bhakti yoga and then by chance I came across chakradance online – I Immediately signed up and was amazed at how the dance combined with guided visuaisation and imagery helped heal me from some of the negative experienced I had with my mental health. The gentle dance movement also got my body moving and started to release some of the trauma in my body for deep somatic healing.

The intuitive mandala art helped to express some of the messages I was receiving from my subconsious mind as according to Jung, my mental health issue was a confrontation with the unconscious and could be alleviated through art mandalas and inner work. To cut a long story short I kept dancing and chakradance was my go to self help practise during all the highs and lows of my eventual recovery. I decided to become a facillitator as I felt my story and experience could be helpful to others who had experienced domestic abuse, mental health or spiritual crisis or had what I now now to be a shamanic calling. I trained as a facillitator, I also trained in counselling and volunteered as a mental health mentor and continued practising the dance, and inner work and art dancing my wayto wellness and a more abundant joyful life working with all the different chakras and their attributes helped me to heal and create a life I really enjoy living. I want to share chakradance with as many other people as possible as a wellness practise that is really transformative and Im hoping to see many other positive stories of transformation and healing.
